The Panzi ITM is a medical school, which since 1999 has been connected to the General Reference Hospital of Panzi. It was created on the basis of reflections with agreements between the authorities of CEPAC and the Provincial Health Inspectorate of South Kivu, given the need of paramedics in the region. This school now organizes three sections: the Laboratory Technique Section, the Nursing and the Midwifery Section. This school lives thanks to the school fees paid by the parents but the expenses are not sufficient to meet the needs of the school. The Panzi ITM is run by a prefect, supported by a supervisor and a few doctors and nurses from the Panzi Hospital in addition to certain paramedics.
We are a non-profit institute of medical techniques based in the Eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo at Panzi Hospital. We take care of youth and adults by providing affordable health science education to Congolese and other Africa great lake region community. We organize our studies in a very practical environment inside the Panzi Hospital were our students have opportunity to practice.
Our students are from diverse social backgrounds, some of them coming from very vulnerable and poor families of DR Congo where war devastated lives physically, morally and financially. With the help of our partners, we have so far managed the hectic task of transforming lives and creating hope for a better future by providing quality education to many who could not afford it. Scholarships for financial assistance are provided to many and Scholarships of excellence to some students. 90% of our lecturers are experienced and professional health practitioners of Panzi Hospital. As a technical secondary school of health sciences, our graduated students have a possibility to pursue their higher education in any university of their choice. UEA is even a partner university next to our doors. Many of our student do even jump straight away into professional career by becoming junior nurses as allowed by the Congolese Government now.
